Featured Events
Featured Events are long-standing, large-scale events that are sponsored by a University office, department, or recognized student organizations as defined by Student Activities.
An event must meet the following criteria to be considered for a Featured Event timeslot:
- Have occurred at least 3 times over the last 5 years
- Have a documented average attendance of at least 500 people
- Be sponsored by a University office, department, or recognized student organization as defined by Student Activities
- Be open to the entire incoming student population
- Be free to attend
- Have no alcohol sold, freely given out, or otherwise distributed
Privileges of being a Featured Event include, but are not limited to:
- Having the ability to choose a date and time before General Event proposals are accepted
- Serving as the sole event during the designated time frame; meaning no other events will overlap by more than 30 minutes
- Being highlighted in publications produced by New Student and Family Programs and on the Howdy Week Featured Events and comprehensive schedules
Responsibilities of Featured Event hosts include:
- Sharing data and feedback related to the event via the Howdy Week Event Coordinator survey
- Maintaining all qualifications
- Providing a table at your event to the Howdy Week Committee, if requested
We understand some major events will not meet all criteria. If you feel your event should be listed as a Featured Event but does not meet one or more of the criteria, please submit a proposal and email New Student and Family Programs at [email protected] addressing the following:
- Describe the event, including the population it is intended to serve and its mission
- The Featured Event qualifications that are not met
- Why you feel your event should be included on the Featured Events schedule
Each exemption request will be evaluated by a committee comprised of the Howdy Week Coordinator, the Director of New Student and Family Programs, and a representative from Student Life.
